Courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina resolved more than 160,000 oldest cases in 2022, according to annual data on the achieved results of plans to resolve the oldest cases.

In 2022, the plan envisages solving 181,994 oldest cases, of which 91 percent have been solved, which is the highest percentage of realization of the plan for solving the oldest cases since 2011, when the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJSC BiH) introduced implementation of plans for solving the oldest cases in the courts.

In the period from January 1 to December 31, 2022, courts in BiH resolved a total of 166,025 oldest cases, which is 3,000 more cases than in 2021.

A total of 122,603 cases were resolved in the courts of the Federation of BiH, 39,008 cases in the Republika Srpska, while the courts of the Brčko District of BiH resolved 2,845 cases, and the Court of BiH resolved 1,569 of the oldest cases.

The analysis shows that first-instance courts – municipal, basic and district courts, on average, implemented 90 percent, and the courts of higher instances 98 percent of the cases provided for in the plans.

From 2010 until the end of 2022, the courts resolved 1,583,310 oldest cases, which greatly influenced the reduction of the total number of pending cases and the resolution of the oldest cases in the courts, which is the result of the long-term practice of implementing plans for resolving the oldest cases in to the courts.
