Covic: If it weren’t for Herceg-Bosna, there would be no Croatian People in BiH

On the occasion of marking the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Croatian Community of Herceg-Bosna (HZHB), wreaths were laid at the monument to the fallen Croatian war veterans in front of the Croatian Home of Duke (Herceg) Stjepan Kosaca in Mostar on Wednesday.

A round table was held on “Renarativization of persecution and return of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)“, which discussed the “historical significance of the founding of HZHB, in a series of decisions of the Croatian Democratic Union, then a political movement that got absolute support by the Croatian people in BiH in the first democratic elections“.

It was pointed out, among other things, “that during that period,Croatian political representatives participated in BiH authorities as well as in the preparation and organization of the referendum for BiH independence and that without the participation of HZHB founders, the international recognition of BiH would be questionable.”

The president of the HDZ BiH and the Croatian National Assembly of BiH, Dragan Covic, explained while talking about the creation and “historical role of Herceg-Bosna, that if it were not for the HZHB, Croats would not be fighting for their political rights today.”

“If it were not for the HZHB and the organized activities of the Croatian people, we would not be here today and would not fight for our political rights. Regardless of the fact that the horrors of war accompanied the HZHB, we can proudly say that our homeland BiH would not exist if it weren’t for Herceg-Bosna. The policy led by HDZ on behalf of the Croatian people is such that we will ensure elements of full equality with others in BiH, “ noted the president of HNS BiH.

The celebration of the 30th anniversary of HZHB was attended by, among others, the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to BiH Ivan Sabolic, members of the Croatian Parliament, founders of HZHB, Croatian representatives of all levels of government, representatives of associations originating from the Homeland War, academia, and Catholic Church.
