Avdo Avdić, editor of the investigative portal Istraga, was denied entry to Croatia at the Gradiška border crossing on Wednesday, according to Istraga’s report.

Croatian border police informed Avdić that his name appears in the national register of persons banned from entering Croatia, and the country’s Ministry of the Interior formally issued a decision refusing him entry.

Istraga noted that Avdić had recently delivered a lecture in Zagreb on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s election law and the measures imposed by High Representative Christian Schmidt, and that he has previously written about the activities of Croatia’s Security and Intelligence Agency (SOA) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković condemned the decision, calling it “a serious blow to media freedom” in a post on X. He warned that such actions set “a dangerous precedent” and send “the wrong message to the entire region,” emphasizing that journalists must remain free to ask difficult questions. Konaković added that the ministry will respond in line with its authority.
