Due to suspicion that around 700 tons of waste were illegally exported from the Varazdin area to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Turkey, a criminal report has been filed with the competent state prosecutor’s office against one company and two suspects.
The Varazdin police reported that they received a criminal report from the Varazdin Regional State Inspectorate, Service for Environmental Protection Supervision and Water Management Inspection, which indicates suspicion of the criminal offense of environmental endangerment with waste committed by one company and two men aged 63 and 41.
“They, in their capacity as directors and responsible persons of a commercial company, in the period from January 22nd to June 15th, 2021, carried out transboundary waste shipments in such a way that they sent 25 shipments of plastic waste to BiH in the amount of approximately 536.200 kilograms, and they shipped the waste without approval from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, even though such waste shipments are subject to a notification procedure, that is, a procedure of prior written notification and approval from the ministry,” the police statement says.
Furthermore, it is highlighted that on November 5th, 2021, they carried out transboundary waste shipments, specifically exporting to Turkey via Slovenia seven bales of mixed waste containing aluminum packaging and aluminum beverage cans, waste generated by separating plastic waste from municipal waste, in the amount of 164.880 kilograms, and this waste was also exported without ministry approval.
The waste was subsequently returned to Croatia to the premises of the commercial company, and a criminal report was filed against the mentioned individuals with the competent state prosecutor’s office, the police say, Klix.ba writes.
