Croatian PM: Serbia is on the Verge of Civil War

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković warned at the Bled Strategic Forum about the “harsh political reality” of the Western Balkans, stressing that Serbia is on the brink of civil war.

“Serbia is on the brink of civil war,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in a panel discussion with the prime ministers of Slovenia, Albania and Montenegro. The topic of the panel was the further enlargement of the European Union.

“You have North Macedonia, which is blocked. You have Serbia, with more than two years of the largest, strongest and most serious internal unrest and demonstrations, on the brink of civil war,” the Croatian prime minister began to list.

“You have Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Dodik who has been dragging out separation or not separation for years, and boom, he’s out. You have Banjska, which passed in 2023 without any serious remark or articulation from anyone in the EU, we pretend it didn’t happen. That’s the reality,” he said.

“We have to be really sober about the enlargement and the changing global context. I am in favor of the enlargement, I think that everyone is trying to join, but they need to stabilize politically”, he stated.
