Dani Alves (40), a celebrated Brazilian soccer player, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for a sexual assault in Barcelona on December 30, 2022, a court in Spain decided.

In addition, the Court ordered that Alves must pay compensation in the amount of 150,000 euros to the victim, as well as pay the costs of the trial.

He was also sentenced to nine and a half years of ban on approaching and communicating with the victim.

Alves was arrested in January 2023 and has been detained ever since after requests for bail were turned down. Prosecutors had been seeking a nine-year jail term for the former footballer. Along with his jail sentence, Alves has also been sentenced to a further five years of ‘supervised’ freedom upon his release from prison, per The Athletic.

The defense of the former football player of Barcelona, Sevilla (Spain), Juventus (Italy), PSG (France), Sao Paulo, Bahia (Brazil) and UNAM (Mexico) has the right to appeal to the High and Supreme Court of Catalonia, a Spanish province.
