Day of Mourning in the Federation of BiH and Brcko District over Tuzla Tragedy

Today is a Day of Mourning in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Brčko District after the tragic fire at the Retirement Home in Tuzla. At least 11 people died in the fire and more than 40 were injured.

The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at an emergency session last night, adopted a Decision to declare November 6th a Day of Mourning in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the tragic event and the death of residents at the Retirement Home in Tuzla, the Public Relations Office of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.

The Day of Mourning is marked by the mandatory display of the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina at half-mast, or at the mast, on the buildings of legislative, executive and judicial authorities, public institutions, institutions and other legal entities in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the Day of Mourning, cultural and entertainment programs cannot be held in public places in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and media outlets in the territory of the Federation of BiH are obliged to coordinate and adapt their program content to the Day of Mourning.

Day of Mourning in Brcko District as well

The Mayor of Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Siniša Milić, declared November 6, 2025, as the Day of Mourning in Brcko District of BiH, due to the tragic loss of life caused by the fire at the Pensioners’ Home in Tuzla.

The Day of Mourning is marked by the mandatory display of the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina at half-mast, or mast, on all government buildings and institutions of the Brcko District of BiH.

All media outlets in the Brcko District of BiH are required to adjust and harmonize their programming content to the Day of Mourning.

The Council of Ministers has not declared a day of mourning at the state level

Last night, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at an extraordinary telephone session, did not have a quorum to work and decide on the Proposal for a Decision to declare November 6 as the Day of Mourning in Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the tragic loss of life caused by the fire at the Pensioners’ Home in Tuzla.

There were eight votes in favor of the decision, while two members of the Council of Ministers of BiH did not vote, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
