green berets BiH dobrovoljacka streetThe 2nd and 3rd of May 1992 represent the turning point in the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the aggression which lasted from 1992 until 1995.

In the former Dobrovoljačka Street, the present Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street in Sarajevo, veterans of the past war and the defense of Sarajevo gathered in the association “Green Berets” paid tribute to the killed defenders of Sarajevo by laying flowers near the Drvenija bridge, just like on every May 3.

With scarce means and without military equipment, citizens managed to defend the capital of BiH.

Those present were addressed by the Minister for Veterans’ Issues of the Sarajevo Canton Muharem Fiso, who highlighted that truth will be revealed in time.

Minister Fiso said that anyone could come to mark the event and to pay tribute to their victims.

“The guys in sneakers have come out to defend the city without knowing what kind of power there is outside,” added Fiso.

President of the Green Berets, Muhamed Švrakić, said it was a small, symbolic gathering where every year, they would remember killed citizens and pay tribute.
