Apocalyptic Situation: Households evacuated from Landslide Zone in Maglaj

Seven households were evacuated from the landslide zone in the part of the Maglaj municipality where a state of natural disaster was declared.

The Minister of Physical Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Adnan Šabani, said that the situation on the ground is apocalyptic and that the real causes of the disturbance of soil stability on such a large scale have yet to be determined.

He stressed that the most important thing is that there are no human casualties due to the activation of the soil on the regional road leading from Novi Šeher to Tešanj and Prnjavor.

According to him, it is still impossible to carry out any rehabilitation work.

The landslide in the settlement of Mladoševica near Novi Šeher was activated on January 7, covering about 50 hectares of land.

Rain and melting snow have again caused flooding in the Konjic area.

The water levels of the Kraljuštica, Seončica and Neretvica rivers have increased. In some places, the embankment has broken through and buildings near the rivers have been flooded.

The Konjic area was also hit by floods and landslides on October 3rd last year, which claimed many lives and caused enormous damage.
