Novak Djokovic is currently in Australia, starting the new season and preparing for the Australian Open. During this time, he gave several statements to the local media, one of which has drawn significant attention.
Djokovic revealed that during his stay at an immigration center in 2021, after being denied entry to Australia due to his unvaccinated status against COVID-19, he was poisoned by food.
“I became seriously ill. After a few days of being weakened by a simple virus, a medical team came to examine me several times. When I returned home, I decided to undergo toxicology tests. I discovered high levels of heavy metals in my body, including lead and mercury. That’s when I realized I had been poisoned by food in the hotel in Melbourne. I have not shared this publicly until now,” Djokovic said.
When asked by journalists whether his opinion on vaccination had changed after everything, Djokovic remained resolute:
“No, I did not feel the need to get vaccinated. I am healthy, I take care of my body, and I regularly undergo various medical tests. As a professional athlete, I know exactly what I put into my body. Moreover, I had antibodies and knew I wasn’t a risk to others,” Djokovic stated.
Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, when asked about his claims, responded that “for security reasons, it does not comment on individual cases.“
Djokovic is set to begin competing in the Australian Open soon, where he will be chasing his 100th career title and another Grand Slam trophy.
