The 28th economic and tourist event “DAYS OF STRAWBERRY FRUIT BIH” ČELIĆ 2024 will be held in Čelić until May 12.

Čelić is especially famous throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also outside the borders of our country, for its strawberries of excellent quality, and the event, popularly known as Jagodarevo, was held for the first time in 1980.

In addition to the exhibition space and numerous exhibitors, the event is regularly enriched with numerous educational programs, round tables and expert discussions, promotions and presentations.

Producers expect a good harvest. The branded Čelica strawberry is known all over Europe, and these days it fills the shelves of Croatian stores.

According to the number of registered producers, in the area of Čelić, about 600 hectares of land are covered by greenhouse production. When the unregistered are taken into account, the number is much higher. The harvest is well underway and lasts for days.” The producers market the strawberry in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s market, to Croatia and part to Germany. Karasuljići, they say, are satisfied with the harvest for now. They have planted strawberries on 26 dunums of land and everything is covered with greenhouses.

SMAJIL KARASULJIĆ, producer

“There is only one advantage, to protect it from the rain and start a little earlier. The rest are all the flaws, the winds blow down, the snow blows down, it’s hot inside, there are costs, everything is expensive.”

HAJRUDIN KARAMOVIĆ, producer

“Untreated, unsprayed, as our people say. Eventually they started asking if it was totaled. No. You can see that he was in a protected area, one hundred percent.”

Edin Karasuljić, who has planted strawberries on 10 dunums of land, is also satisfied with the crop. The development of greenhouse production, with the support of the government, has significantly improved their production, he says.

EDIN KARASULJIĆ, producer

“Here, two years ago, I had seven dunums in an open field, and when the harvest season came, we were hit by heavy May rains. That all knew how to rot.” To put 10 strawberries in a basket, and to throw away 50.”

At the Karasuljić estate, we also found their hard-working daughters, six-year-old twins Emma and Edna, working full time.

The municipality of Čelić is known in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the region, for the production of the largest quantities of strawberries. Cultivation has been going on for more than five decades, and greenhouse production is now almost completely represented, BHRT writes.
