The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina ordered a one-month detention for the suspended President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ranko Debevac, and the former General Director of the Intelligence and Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Osman Mehmedagić, who were arrested for abuse of office.

According to this decision, detention can last for a maximum of one month, that is, until January 18 or until a new decision of the Court, due to the existence of special detention reasons, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.

Debevec and Mehmedagić, who were arrested on Monday, December 18, are suspected of criminal offenses of abuse of position or authority and falsification of an official document, according to the announcement.

Chief Prosecutor Milanko Kajganić previously stated that evidence has been collected so far that the two suspects committed criminal acts of abuse of office, and that they illegally eavesdropped on judges of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Debevac was suspended yesterday by the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJSC) pending the completion of the investigation, after he was arrested in the operation of SIPA on the order of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The decision of the HJPC states that the First Instance Disciplinary Commission considers that the continued performance of the duties of the President of the Court of BiH appointed until the end of the investigation would seriously threaten the credibility of the judicial function and the judiciary of BiH as a whole.

Today the HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina elected judge Minka Kreho, president of the Criminal Department of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as acting president of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
