Delegates refused to consider three Laws important to BiH’s European Path

The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) did not accept the proposal of the Bosniak Caucus delegate Denis Becirovic-Social Democratic Party (SDP) to include in yesterday’s agenda of the emergency session the Bill on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest in BiH Institutions, the Bill on Amendments to the Law on High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), and the Bill on the Law on Amendments to the Law on Public Procurement.

Namely, the proposals of these three laws were adopted at the last session by the House of Representatives of the PABiH.

Proposing their inclusion on the agenda, Becirovic said that BiH state authorities must not be places where there are obstructionand procrastination, and especially not where BiH’s European path is blocked.

”Today we have the opportunity to show our commitment to European standards and to speed up our path to the European Union (EU). Accordingly, I suggest that at today’s session we put these three very important laws on our agenda for our path to the EU,” Becirovic stated yesterday.

He mentioned that these are laws that are contained in 14 priorities as part of the Opinion of the European Commission, and if the House of Peoples accepts them, BiH will have the right to request granting the status of candidate for EU membership.

Delegates, however, did not accept that the three bills be considered at yesterday’s session.

The request of the House of Representatives of the PABiH to discuss the Proposal of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Excise Duties in BiH, which envisages the abolition of excise duties on fuel, is being considered by the urgent procedure.

Last week, the House of Representatives of the state parliament, at the suggestion of SDP BiH delegates, urgently adopted a proposal for this law, the adoption of which, according to the proposers, would reduce fuel prices by 30 to 45 pfennigs per liter.
