ebrd visit CSProjects of reconstruction of water supply network, “the green city” and city traffic were the occasion for yesterday’s meeting of Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo Elmedin Konakovic with the Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for BiH Ian Brown, where was noted that the priority of the Government of CS is still reconstruction of water supply networks.

At the meeting was noted that the EBRD already hired consultants to update the feasibility study for the reconstruction of the water supply network. They are now waiting for the approval of management in London, to sign a loan agreement by the end of May, which is intended for the first most urgent interventions in the water supply infrastructure.

“Reconstruction of water supply network remains the priority for the Government of Canton Sarajevo,” said Prime Minister Konakovic and explained that the potential of PUC “Water and Sewage” is enormous, but that water loss due to old plumbing system and its illegal use amounts to more than 70 %.

He noted that they are planning to start with the reconstruction of the network this year and that they will do everything in order to start with these activities.

The EBRD has good cooperation with the Government of CS, but they believe that it is time to take it further, and expressed readiness for new credit arrangements.

The Prime Minister Konakovic said that besides the reconstruction of water supply network, issues of clean air and regulation of public transport are vital for CS.

Minister of Physical Planning, Construction, and Environment of CS Cedomir Lukic will support the project of the “green city”, because any kind of help is welcome, especially because with consultants and their assessment could come the necessary financial resources, and the responsible ministry is already working on energy efficiency in buildings.

When it comes to the third project that is related to traffic, representatives of the EBRD agreed that it will not be realized until the water supply network is reconstructed.
