Delegations from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the City of Sarajevo and others today laid flowers and paid tribute to those killed at the Kazani site near Sarajevo.

After the war, the remains of 23 victims were exhumed from the pit in Kazan, 15 of which were identified. Data from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina indicate that there are five female victims and ten male victims, aged from 27 to 66 years. Two victims are of Ukrainian nationality, two of Croat, one victim of Bosniak nationality and ten victims of Serbian nationality.

14 members of the Tenth Mountain Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina were convicted for the murders in Kazan and failure to report the crime and the perpetrators during and immediately after the war. Brigade commander Mušan Topalović Caco was killed in Sarajevo on October 26, 1993.

The Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Stojanović, pointed out that the commemoration of the Day of Crimes in Kazan is a warning and warning for the future and that politicians must send a message that such a thing must never happen again.

He added that showing respect to the victims from all people, and especially from politicians, is very important for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and it should be our obligation that future generations never experience what we experienced.

– That’s why I expect all politicians to join us at events like this, regardless of nationality and political affiliation – Stojanović said.

The Vice President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Refik Lendo, said that today they want to remember all the civilian victims who died through no fault of their own, regardless of their names and how they pray to God.

– We condemned it at the time and today we are here to remember them and to send a picture of the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina in which there is room for all its citizens – said Lendo.

The mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, said that we will forever remember the murdered fellow citizens with sadness and respect, and that they are here today to honor all innocently murdered neighbors.

– Sarajevo is sending a message today that it strongly condemns the killing of innocent people anywhere in the world. Sarajevo has always been on the right side of history and we have always treated those who suffer and are victims in the same way – emphasized Karić.

The Vice President of the Serbian Civic Council, Rajko Živković, said that we should all learn from such events so that they never happen again and so that we can live together.

When asked by a journalist about the content of the text on the memorial, he replied that it should be written that those crimes were committed by Mušan Topalović Caco.
