sarajevo-new-yearIntense preparations for the celebration of the New Year in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina are being conducted in a positive atmosphere. This is expected to be the most spectacular New Year celebration so far. According to the Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka, a rich four-hour program will be organized. Alcohol will not be sold at the Square of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the nearby shopping centers will not work.

Skaka said that according to the Law on Public Gatherings in the Sarajevo Canton the serving of alcohol is forbidden and its uncontrolled sale in the open cannot be allowed.

“Catering facilities near the Square of BiH, in the heart of Sarajevo, will work according to their usual schedule. Since we are co-organizers of this year’s Sarajevo Holiday Market, tourists and citizens will be able to buy everything they need there,” said Skaka.

According to the Law on Public Gatherings in the Sarajevo Canton, participants in a peaceful gathering and people who move close to the site of the event are forbidden to carry weapons, items that might inflict physical injuries, and alcoholic beverages. Financial penalties for violators of this provision range from 100 BAM to 300 BAM.

Skaka also said that traffic will be closed occasionally, after a significant number of people arrive to the venue. Traffic will be closed and alternative routes open in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton and the Traffic Police.

Additional advantage during the New Year’s Eve will be the allowed traffic on Wilson’s Promenade.

The star at the celebration of New Year will be Dino Merlin. He will start singing at 11 pm and the City Administration of the City of Sarajevo emphasized that the program will last for four hours. At midnight, mayor of Sarajevo and officials of the City of Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton will congratulate the New Year to the citizens.

Sarajevo City Center and Alta Shopping Center will not be working. They will most probably close at 8 pm.

The City of Sarajevo accepted the offer by the organizational team of Dino Merlin in the amount of 250.000 BAM. This amount will be spent for the entire organization of the New Year celebration.

The stage will be 50 meters wide and more than 250 square meters of LED screens will be installed so that the citizens can see the entire concert. Moreover, the greatest laser show ever in Sarajevo will be installed. Along with Dino Merlin and guests Divanhana, Yehan Jehan and After Affair, the City of Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Canton hope that the New Year celebration will make Sarajevo a number one destination in the region.
