More than 500 participants gathered today in Sarajevo for the 17th Days of the Bosnian-American Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS), one of the most important international scientific and professional gatherings that brings together Bosnian scientists, doctors, researchers, artists and experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora.
At this year’s BHAAAS Days, which will be held from June 4 to 7, 2026 at five locations in Sarajevo, through more than 25 thematic symposia, special events, promotions and workshops, the importance of BHAAAS as a unique platform for connecting scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world will be confirmed.
The president of BHAAAS, Zlatan Akšamija, stated that the knowledge of Bosnian experts in the diaspora is one of the greatest resources of our country, and through connecting with local institutions and young people, we create the foundations for stronger scientific, technological and social development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The mission of BHAAAS is not only to gather top individuals, but to create concrete spaces for cooperation, transfer of knowledge and joint shaping of the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Days of BHAAAS are a place where the experience of the diaspora, the capacity of domestic institutions and the energy of new generations meet,” said Akšamija.
The central venue of this year’s meeting is Hotel Holiday, while the program contents are realized in several locations in Sarajevo, including the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, General Hospital “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš”, ASA Institute, Faculty of Political Sciences, and the Mövenpick and Courtyard by Marriott hotels.
A special place in the program is occupied by 16 international medical symposia in the fields of infectious diseases, radiology, pulmonology, hepatology, mental health of children and adolescents, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, neurology, dermatovenerology, regenerative medicine and plastic surgery, intensive care medicine, endocrinology and diabetology, vascular medicine, cardiology, orthopedics and traumatology, and maxillofacial surgery.
Among the interdisciplinary contents of the conference, “AI Across Disciplines”, an event dedicated to artificial intelligence and its application in medicine, art, economy and society, as well as IAT 2026 – International Symposium on Innovative and Interdisciplinary Applications of Advanced Technologies, with the participation of prominent international and domestic experts in the fields of advanced technologies, engineering, science and innovation, stand out.
The conference also brings student symposia in the fields of medicine, biology, computer science and information technology, which provide students from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina with the opportunity to present their own research, strengthen their scientific competences, network and interact directly with domestic and international experts.
As part of the program, the promotion of the book “Between ethnonationalism and the civil state – Integral politics: A new social contract for BiH” will be held, the organizers announced.
