EUFOR Commander Major General Maurizio Fronda welcomed mayors and municipal representatives from across Bosnia and Herzegovina to Camp Butmir for a community engagement event aimed at strengthening cooperation, fostering dialogue, and reinforcing partnerships between EUFOR and local communities.

Bringing together local leaders from different regions of the country, the event provided a valuable platform for open discussion on community priorities, local challenges, and opportunities for continued cooperation in support of a safe and secure environment.

The gathering highlighted the important role that local authorities play in maintaining stability, promoting community resilience, and addressing the concerns of citizens. Participants also received an overview of EUFOR’s mandate and ongoing activities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Speaking during the event, Major General Fronda emphasized the importance of maintaining direct communication with local leaders and ensuring that communities remain at the centre of EUFOR’s engagement efforts.

“Local leaders have a unique understanding of the needs and concerns of their communities. Through regular dialogue and cooperation, we strengthen mutual trust, improve understanding, and contribute to long-term stability across Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Major General Fronda.

A key focus of the event was the work of EUFOR’s Liaison and Observation Teams (LOTs), which maintain a permanent presence in communities throughout the country. Through their daily interaction with local authorities, civil society representatives, and citizens, LOT Houses serve as an important link between EUFOR and the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Participants were briefed on the LOT network’s activities and its contribution to fostering cooperation, building confidence, and enhancing situational awareness. The discussion underscored the value of local partnerships in identifying emerging issues, understanding community perspectives, and supporting a stable environment.

The event also provided an opportunity for mayors to exchange experiences and share insights on challenges facing their municipalities, further reinforcing the importance of cooperation and communication at all levels.

As Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to navigate a complex political landscape, strong partnerships between international organizations, domestic authorities, and local communities remain essential. Events such as this demonstrate the shared commitment to dialogue, transparency, and cooperation in support of all citizens.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of EUFOR’s commitment to working closely with local communities, domestic institutions, and international partners to maintain a safe and secure environment and to support lasting stability throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
