Digitalisation and Improvement of Processes in Health Care in BiH

Digitalisation of the health sector, improvement of processes in health care and the application of innovations are the topics that will be addressed by the participants of the conference on medical and biological engineering and computing over the next three days. More than 300 participants, from 40 countries, will try to bring the world’s achievements in the field of medical and biological engineering, which in our country, in many segments, are only in the phase of pilot projects.

The digitalization process of the health sector in BiH is not yet at a satisfactory level. Therefore, it was said, the conference should already provide an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and experience in this field. This includes the application of digital nurses. One such, the first in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is located in the hospital in Bijeljina.

“By initializing your electronic health card on the reader, it automatically recognizes who you are. They then know why we came to that health facility, how many referrals, findings, prescriptions we have, what our next step is, where we need to contact, they can sign us up for a specific examination or make an appointment”, explains Slavko Bojić, manager of a company that produces digital nurses.

Lejla Gurbeta-Pokvić, director of the VERLAB Institute, stated that examples of robots with artificial intelligence can be seen that can contribute to the improvement of quality in the health sector tomorrow: “These are innovations today that can become the future tomorrow, and improve specific processes in the health sector. That we no longer have paper, that electronic cards are enough”.

When our country will fully apply world innovations in the field of medical and biological engineering, it is difficult to say. Many innovations are still in the phase of pilot projects, which, as was said at the conference, do not sufficiently follow legal regulations.
