Director Francois Tanguy, who went on a Hunger Strike demanding an End to the War in BiH, has passed away

French theater director Francois Tanguy died at the age of 64.

He was a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Namely, BiH director Haris Pasovic stated that Francois, together with Ariane Mnouchkine and Olivier Py, went on a hunger strike demanding an end to the war in our country.

”He was a great artist and self-effacing is the best word that can be used to describe this man. He was an extremely subtle director and an equally sensitive man. With the Sarajevo Festival Ensemble, we were guests and played two shows in his La Fonderie theater in Le Mans in 1994. Throughout his life, Tanguy was with those who suffered injustice. This was also the case during the siege of Sarajevo and the war in BiH,” Pasovic stated.

He added that Francois was an artist who had ideals and lived according to them. He didn’t care about fame, awards, or money. He lived modestly and created his own special, mysterious, unique theater.

”The last time we met was a few years ago in Paris, in the 13th arrondissement, where mostly only immigrants from Asia live. He was rehearsing there in a house of culture. We sat at the table, smoked, and spoke little, only a few short sentences. With Francois, it didn’t take many words to achieve deep communication and exchange heartfelt emotions. He was a rare kind man, very brave, perhaps one of the most consistent people I knew. Merci, Francois. Adieu mon cher ami,” Pasovic concluded, Klix.ba reports.
