Doctors Confirm Pope Francis Out of Immediate Danger from Pneumonia

Doctors have confirmed that Pope Francis is no longer in immediate danger from pneumonia, but he remains in hospital.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, is no longer in immediate danger of death from pneumonia, but they have decided to keep him in hospital for a few more days, doctors have confirmed.

Doctors said that the 88-year-old pope remained stable and had consolidated improvements in recent days, as confirmed by blood tests and positive responses to drug treatment.

“However, given the complexity of the clinical picture and the significant infectious picture shown upon admission, it will be necessary to continue drug therapy in hospital conditions for a few more days,” the Vatican said in a statement.

The pope has been in hospital since February 14. This is the fourth time that Pope Francis has been hospitalized at the Gemelli hospital. He underwent colon surgery there in 2021 and was treated for a respiratory infection in 2023. A few months later he was hospitalized for a hernia operation.

The Pope’s fragile health has caused increasing concern about the future of his pontificate. Francis has said several times that he would be ready to retire if his health did not allow him to continue his mission.

Francis’ predecessor, Pope Benedict, stepped down in 2013, citing “lack of strength of spirit and body” as the reason. He died in 2022, according to AA.
