A total of 300 doctors, medical staff and volunteers have been helping in free medical treatment for the people on the margins of society, who are forgotten and living in distant places all across BiH, for more than 20 years.

The medical association of the humanitarian character BIMA is a symbol for well-doing because they are working as volunteers, from heart and with a lot of love for that people. They have been welcomed with smile wherever they went, because people know that they will receive a full examination in one day, which they would usually wait for days, maybe even for months, or they would have to give large amounts of money for them because they have no health insurance.

Their team includes people of different age and professions, from doctors and nurses, through the students of health sciences to volunteers. It is important to mention that members of this association are doctors of various specialties, including internists, pediatricians, ophthalmologists, radiologists, gynecologists, physiatrists, dentists, specialists of family medicine, doctors with years of practice, as well as veterinarians.

“What makes us particularly happy is the fact that we have more and more new members every day, which gives us a positive image of young people in our country, and it is giving us hope for better tomorrow. Each of our actions has around 50 activist,” said Hasan Mrkonja.

When preparing the action, volunteers gather in the early morning hours at a specific location. They carry medical equipment: the ECG apparatus, the apparatus for ultrasound as well as all the material necessary for the lab. They provide examinations and other medical services under improvised conditions, so you can find them in schools, ambulances, masjids, halls and open spaces. However, that is not an obstacle for them because they care only about fulfilling their mission, i.e. to help people.

Everyone is coming to examinations, from the old people to parents with children. Each and every one of them has a problem or needs an advice on what to do. The Medical Association BIMA supports all those who need assistance, regardless of their religion and nationality.

They have visited many places so far. Besides the actions organized in BiH, they gave their contribution in Serbia as well, when they assisted Syrian refugees.

“Our activities are very important to people without adequate health care, without health insurance, for all those who need help. In this way, we work on the improvement of their health, prevention of certain types of diseases, timely diagnosis, but also on raising awareness on the importance of regular visits to doctors.
