The President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, whose mandate was revoked by the Central Election Commission today after a final verdict was pronounced against him, stated that a referendum will be called in the RS in which the people will decide on further actions.
– The people gave me the mandate, and the CEC only confirmed it. So, the CEC cannot take away something that it did not give me – stated Dodik at today’s press conference held after the session of the coalition partners in the RS.
– The referendum will be held on the basis of a decision by the RS National Assembly, which, I believe, will be held soon – said Dodik.
He claims that accepting the decisions “from Sarajevo would represent a death sentence for the Constitution of the RS, and thus the RS”.
Dodik reiterated the position of the RS leadership that the High Representative in BiH is illegal, and that all decisions against him are unconstitutional.
He also said that behind everything is “Sarajevo’s secessionist policy, which accepts an illegal High Representative”.
– I have decided to listen to the people and that is why I call on all Serbs in the RS to unite around the RS. I have no illusions that universal unity is possible, but I believe in the people – Dodik added.
The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina today made a decision to terminate the mandate of the President of the RS, Milorad Dodik. The decision was made after the Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the first-instance verdict sentencing Dodik to one year in prison and a six-year ban on holding public office.
Dodik has the right to appeal the decision of the CEC to the Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which considers election appeals. After the appeal process has expired, the decision will become final.
If the Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirms the CEC’s decision, elections for the President of the RS, according to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina, should be held within 90 days.
