Dodik: An independent RS would become an EU Member in three Years

Milorad Dodik, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) pointed out that the Republika Srpska (RS), as an independent state, would meet all the requirements set by the European Union (EU) and thus become its new member in three years.

“I believe that as an independent state, RS would meet all the requirements that the EU demands in three years and become its new member. We cannot make any progress with the Federation of BiH (FBiH), in which there is no agreement even between Croats and Bosniaks, the other two constituent peoples, in which there is no government, even though the elections finished two and a half years ago, where there are 11 governments,” said Dodik, while mentioning the pandemic as proof that RS is functioning better on its own.

Then he spoke again about peaceful separation as the best option, and for the umpteenth time, he commented on the Slovenian non-paper. While speaking about the alleged disintegration of BiH, he told that the Serbian people do not want European integration within the state of BiH as joining the EU as part of BiH is not the best option.

“The most effective way to the EU is to divide and meet the requirements for membership separately. If we had done so ten or fifteen years ago, we would already be in the EU. I am sorry that Europe has not shown more sensitivity to the issue called BiH, because it seems to me that no one wants to see that BiH has failed and that it is still maintained only by the infusion of the international factor. I do not think that this factor will last forever in BiH, so it is important to consider potential scenarios for the future of that area, ” stated Dodik in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian news agency ANA-MPA, which was reported by the Greek media.

When asked if he saw any European perspective for BiH and what would be needed for its entry into the EU, Dodik said that BiH could only stay in Dayton from 1995.

“As far as I am concerned, it is more likely that RS will do it independently, since we have no problem in fulfilling all the conditions if we have to do it on our own, as RS. So far, that European path has been conditioned by taking away our rights and our competencies. We are ready to share competencies with Brussels, but not with Sarajevo, ” Dodik noted, Klix.ba writes.
