Dodik: Guterres is not competent to interpret the Dayton Agreement

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is not competent to interpret the Dayton Agreement, “but in his reply to the letter from the member of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, he confirmed that Christian Schmidt was not appointed as a high representative”.

This was announced by the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, asserting that Guterres is ignoring the facts.

“Guterres cannot interpret the Dayton Agreement, he is not competent. We only asked him to say whether Schmidt was appointed or not. And Schmidt was not named. It can be seen that there is dangerous propaganda against the RS, but that does not mean that we are wrong,” says Dodik.

He points out that the Dayton Agreement “clearly states that the UN Security Council elects a high representative through a relevant resolution”, and that “it was like that until Schmidt”.

He asked “then why do they discuss BiH in the United Nations twice a year, if they are not competent?”

“If what Guterres says is true, then we will ask for compensation. We will talk to the member states of the UN, because it turns out that the UN is not responsible for high representatives. We know what Paddy Ashdown was doing here. Then everything is illegal and we can ask for compensation,” claims Dodik.

He also emphasizes that “Guterres has created even greater confusion in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, and adds that “everyone knows that the Council for the Implementation of Peace is an artificial body”, as well as that “RS remains on the European path”.

“We are against membership in NATO, and BiH will have to return to the original Dayton,” Dodik added, and said that the RS will fight for its rights politically.
