Dodik’s Post-Verdict Speech Fuels Grounds for Expanded Prosecution Investigations

In the second part of his address, after being sentenced by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to one year in prison and six years of disqualification from holding office as president of Republika Srpska (RS), Milorad Dodik opened the door to several more lawsuits.

Dodik gave a scandalous speech in which he insulted Judge Sena Uzunovic, Christian Schmidt, Germany, Paddy Ashdown, and presented claims that he would either have to prove or face criminal liability before the competent courts.

At the start of his second address, Dodik said he had one message for Schmidt and raised his middle finger.

“When you see Schmidt, notify the police so we can arrest him and kick him out of here. That man doesn’t deserve to walk on Serbian land. He deserves to be sent off with stones, no matter what they say. Because he was the first to commit violence, we have the right to defend ourselves – and we will defend ourselves at every step. No one will persecute you for that,” said Dodik.

In this statement, elements of inciting citizens to violence against a protected person – the High Representative – can be identified.

Dodik then said that the “Muslim people” are good people, but that they are under the delusion of political Islam, which is pushing them into a certain radicalism visible among their politicians.

“That Uzunovic woman, whom I didn’t want to comment on in the past few days, agreed to convict Milorad Dodik, because Strika, the first judge, who had some decency, withdrew, and we know he said: ‘this is a farce, I don’t want to participate, and I don’t want to live with that as a pensioner.’ Then she stepped in – and you heard from Galijasevic that she was an assistant commander of a brigade in the Konjic area, the one that killed Serbs in Bradina. And then, as it usually goes with them, they appoint her as a judge, and those Muslims who were accused of the crime in Bradina – where they slaughtered an entire Serb village – shame on them, damn them. So, they killed our people. That Sena ruled in favor of those Muslims and acquitted them, saying they weren’t guilty, but Milorad Dodik is guilty… Milorad Dodik is guilty, right? Aren’t you ashamed? That’s why she was so nervous during the trial. When I had surgery, they claimed I didn’t. They dug up some biased doctor there, again a Muslim, who said I could (attend). I could have, but our strategy was to give them a chance too, to wait for a neutral moment, as politics and the situation were changing. They became obligated to something,” said Dodik.

He further claimed that Uzunovic said she was under pressure and had to comply.

“Is she normal? How are we supposed to understand that behavior? On the other hand, they didn’t stop there. From her own family, from the judge’s family, they sought contact with our people – and this is the first time I’m saying this. So, they sought contact with our people, and her close relative came – I’ll talk about that later, not today – and he was recorded. He demanded several million for an acquittal. And because they didn’t get those millions, now I’m guilty,” said Dodik.

Dodik should know that if such an attempted bribery actually happened, he was obligated to report it so that an investigation could be launched. Since that did not happen, he himself should now be part of the investigation by the competent authorities.

Also, besides legal responsibility, there is also a logical issue here. Dodik first claimed that Judge Uzunovic allegedly said she was under pressure to convict him and then claimed that someone from her family demanded money for an acquittal.

“Those stinking Europeans who talk here about the rule of law –aren’t you ashamed? Don’t let any of them come here,” said Dodik.

These statements could be placed in the context of spreading interethnic hatred, and Dodik continued in his speech to insult the German nation.

“The Constitution of BiH doesn’t even have a court or a prosecutor’s office, so they imposed them on us some time ago. I think it was Petric, again from the Germanic lands – again the Krauts and again those damn Germans – who came here and imposed the Law on the Court and Prosecutor’s Office. And then they said to me and others: first you adopt it, and then you can amend it. And then they told everyone: you are not allowed to amend it. Then they told the Muslims: this is in your favor, so there will be no changes. And then they lie again, and they lie about everything,” said Dodik.

About former High Representative, the late Paddy Ashdown, he wished “for the earth to spit out his bones.”

Dodik also insulted former United States (U.S.) President Joe Biden, several journalists from RS, and cursed USAID.

“If today we pass a law that it doesn’t apply in the territory of RS, I probably won’t even appeal, and I won’t beg them for anything. You have to know, about Sena Uzunovic, you’ll be hearing about her in the coming days, and those few millions I’m demanding back, and what was given in her name will have to be returned five times over. I’ll rub it in her face, like nothing else in life. You took the money, Mrs. Sena Uzunovic, your people took themoney, that’s why they blackmailed us. We said let’s see, only to now end up in a situation where we say give us our money back. Send your people to check this out. No, this will be investigated by the prosecutors of RS,” said Dodik two days ago, thereby essentially admitting to yet another crime, Klix.ba writes.
