Milorad Dodik, leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), stated that September 15 is not merely the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom, and the National Flag, but also a day demonstrating that all the borders drawn by others among Serbs are weaker than the bonds that have united them for centuries.
“The Drina has never been a border separating a single people sharing the same faith, language, history, and collective memory. Today, Serbia and Republika Srpska breathe and live as one; much of the credit for this goes to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who understood that while administrative borders must be respected, they need not serve as walls between Serbs,” Dodik wrote on the social network X.
He emphasized that “there is something a thousand years older and stronger than all the barriers erected against us – our belonging to a single, indivisible Serbian identity.”
“And its most beautiful symbol is the Serbian tricolor. Long live Serbia! Long live Republika Srpska,” Dodik stated in his post.
The Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom, and the National Flag will be observed today in Banja Luka, organized by the governments of Republika Srpska and Serbia.
The main ceremony will take place this evening at the “Borik” Sports Hall.
This holiday, established to mark the anniversary of the breakthrough of the Salonika Front during World War I, has been celebrated since 2020 with the aim of “strengthening the unity of the Serbian people in Serbia and Republika Srpska.”, Beta writes.
