Dodik: The Opening of the Russian consulate in Banja Luka is possible this Year

The President of Republika Srpska entity Milorad Dodik said that the Russian consulate in Banja Luka could be opened this year.

Dodik noted that all decisions necessary for the opening of the consulate were made by both sides, and that technical and logistical issues are currently being worked on that will enable it to be opened as soon as possible.

“This will not be just a representative office, but a consulate in Banja Luka. It will help us a lot, and we are preparing a room where the appropriate team can work,” said Dodik for the Russian “Izvestia”.

When asked if he expects that to happen this year, Dodik answered in the affirmative, stating that he thinks it is realistic.

Regarding the establishment of direct flights between Republika Srpska and Russia, Dodik stated that Republika Srpska does not have its own airline.

“Of course, we have our own airport, but the implementation of such an issue requires the consent of many interested parties. This is a good idea that we will try to realize in the future,” said Dodik.

He pointed out that, as far as he was concerned, the answer would be “tomorrow” or even “yesterday”, but added that it largely depends on the airline.

“As far as Republika Srpska is concerned, we will issue all the necessary permits and support this initiative to the maximum,” said Dodik.

He repeated that in April he plans to participate in the security conference in St. Petersburg, where this year the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held, and he plans to be a guest.

“In addition, if possible, I would like to attend the inauguration of President Putin,” said Dodik.
