The President of Republika Srpska (RS), Milorad Dodik, responded to yesterday’s statement from the United States (U.S.) Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in which he was criticized for denying the genocide in Srebrenica.
In his reaction, Dodik said that “the verdicts of the international courts for the events in Srebrenica referred to by the U.S. Embassy cannot be taken as the final truth, because there is a very long list of crimes committed in the world that have not been prosecuted by any court, including crimes committed by like-minded people of (American ambassador) Michael Murphy outside the borders of the U.S.”.
Dodik stated that the U.S. does not recognize the jurisdiction of the international court for its citizens, but these same courts are relevant to them other countries.
When asked to comment on the statement of the U.S. Embassy, Dodik said that for a long time, what someone from the U.S. Embassy will say means nothing to him, and that he is answering this only and exclusively for the sake of the citizens of RS.
“When one diplomatic mission allows itself the vocabulary and constructions of third-party callers from the eternal opposition in BiH, then we all need to reconsider. With every announcement, the U.S. Embassy ruins the reputation of its country and strengthens the belief of the citizens of the RS that Ambassador Murphy is not benevolent towards the Serbs and RS,” said Dodik.
It should be recalled that the U.S. Embassy made an announcement after the President of RS Milorad Dodik again denied the genocide in Srebrenica.
“President Dodik is, as always, wrong when he claims that genocide did not take place in and around Srebrenica in July 1995. The facts of this tragedy are supported by impeccable forensic and other evidence and have been established beyond any doubt by international courts: elements of the Army of the RS (VRS), under the command of Ratko Mladic and the political directive of Radovan Karadzic, committed genocide, and they are war criminals,” the U.S. Embassy stated.
As they point out, for this and other war crimes committed during the 1992-1995 war, the perpetrators are to blame, not an entire ethnic group. Dodik’s repeated denial of the genocide in Srebrenica cannot change these facts, the U.S. Embassy emphasized, Klix.ba reports.
