In 2025, according to preliminary data collected and processed for cinemas in BiH by Obala Art Center – Sarajevo Film Festival, there were more than a million viewers in cinemas in Bosnia and Herzegovina: by the beginning of December, a total of 1,034,269 viewers, while the box office revenue in 2025, according to preliminary data, amounted to 8,044,493 BAM.
The previous year, 2024, concluded with 1,139,019 viewers in cinemas and a box office revenue of 8,443,898 BAM. Given that from the moment of publication of these data, there are still four cinema weeks left until the end of the year and that the blockbuster Avatar: Fire and Ashes is coming to cinemas by the end of the year, and that the domestic cinema hit Testament is still very popular, it is expected that both the number of viewers in cinemas and the box office will surpass the previous year in terms of numbers.
It is estimated that in 2025 there will be more than 1.2 million visitors to cinemas. However, it is unlikely that 2025 will surpass the record year of 2023, when the American cinema hits Barbie and Oppenheimer achieved huge success in cinemas and when there were more than 1.3 million viewers in cinemas in BiH.
The cinema market in BiH continues to grow and develop with the renovation of existing cinemas, the opening of new cinemas and multiplexes. Incidentally, the opening of multiplexes and the increase in the number of screens for showing films marked a new era for the box office in BiH, which in the last five years has recorded the highest box office revenue in the last 30 years. However, the cinema business in BiH still has a lot of room for growth, especially when it comes to the number of cinemas and the number of screens.
In the year 2025, 225 films were shown in cinemas, of which 186 were new, and 39 were films that entered cinema distribution from the previous year. Out of that, there were eight domestically produced films in cinemas, of which four were completely produced in Bosnia and Herzegovina, three from Bosnia and Herzegovina. majority co-production, and in one film BiH is a minority co-producer. There were 113 American-produced films, 87 European ones, and 26 regional films (from the former Yugoslavia). There were 173 feature films, 48 animated films and only four documentaries. Feature films were watched the most – 80.15 percent of viewers watched them.
According to preliminary data up to the beginning of December 2025, the film that achieved the highest revenue in cinemas in Bosnia and Herzegovina is Testament with a record 1,155,225 BAM in revenue, which is the highest amount in the cinema distribution of a domestic film in modern times. Testament is also the most watched film with 154,608 viewers. Testament, as a Bosnian film, achieved as much as 14.36 percent of the total box office in the cinema market and as much as 33.82 percent of the box office revenue of the top ten films. This shows that a strong domestic hit will be more watched than American blockbusters.
