Donald Trump provokes Trudeau again, calls Canada a U.S. State

Newly elected United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump has once again attempted to provoke Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with a post on his social network, TruthSocial.

Referring to his recent idea that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, Trump called Trudeau the “governor of the magnificent state of Canada.”

“It was an honor to have dinner a few nights ago with the governor of the magnificent state of Canada, Justin Trudeau. I’m excited to sit down again with the governor to further discuss tariffs and trade. The results of these talks will be spectacular,” Trump posted.

Historically, Trump and Trudeau did not have a particularly strong relationship during Trump’s first term as U.S. president.

Trump often referred to Trudeau as a “lunatic” and a “radical leftist,” while the Canadian prime minister repeatedly labeled Trump as a “threat to democracy.”

During their dinner, held a few days ago at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump openly suggested that Canada should become a U.S. state, a proposal he had previously made for Mexico.

“We give them 300 billion dollars a year – why not make them states?” Trump said, referring to the trade balance the U.S. has with Mexico and Canada.

As a solution to this situation, Trump proposed a 25% tariff on all goods imported into the U.S. from these two countries, a suggestion that elicited strong reactions from both leaders, Klix.ba writes.
