Today, a session of the Organizing Committee was held to commemorate July 11, the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica. The committee members considered the activities so far and the next steps in the preparations for the commemoration and collective funeral at the Potočari Memorial Center.

At the session of the Organizing Committee, the draft program of the 31st anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica was adopted. Planned duties and activities on the occasion of the commemoration and collective funeral, which will be held on July 11 at the Potočari Memorial Center, were discussed. The Organization Committee also had a report from the Institute for the Missing.

“The commemoration of the 31st anniversary is taking its course. Today we had a report from the Institute for the Missing, they said that eight victims are ready, with the fact that we have 37 bodies identified where the families did not give their consent for their burial because a small number of bones were found. On this occasion, I appeal to the families to give their consent, regardless of the small number of bones, so that they can be found here in the cemetery so that they have their own target and thus have their own identity, that they existed, that they have their own name and surname and that way we pay that due attention and obligation, and that obligation is to preserve the memory and pass it on to future generations to all victims of genocide”, said Hamdija Fejzić, president of the Committee for Commemorating July 11, 1995.

The final preparations for the Peace March are underway. Applications are already open, and the number of applicants already confirms that this year’s Peace March will gather a large number of participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world.

“We have some challenges on the route that we need to resolve in June, and we will of course resolve them so that the route remains unchanged and passable and safe for all participants of the Peace March. We opened applications a long time ago, the current number of applicants – 1,631, which is a good number for this time”, emphasized Suljo Čanović, president of the Nezuk-Potočari Peace March Subcommittee.

The organizing committee continues intensive preparations for the celebration of July 11, and all subcommittees are working on the implementation of the planned activities. The arrival of a large number of participants and guests is expected, while the organizers say that the goal is to honor the victims of genocide with dignity and preserve the culture of memory for future generations.
