Romania is in the grip of cold and snow. Three districts in the southeast (Braila, Buzau and Ialomita) are under an orange alert on Tuesday due to dangerous weather, the Romanian Ministry of the Interior announced, reports the Bulgarian agency BTA.

The wind speed in those areas exceeds 85 km/h. Heavy snow closed five sections of state roads and 26 sections of county roads to traffic. Power outages were recorded in 11 settlements in Braila and Galati districts.

The Black Sea ports of Midia, Konstanz and Mangalia were closed due to strong winds.

Classes were suspended in several counties due to bad weather. Physical education classes have been suspended in the eastern districts of Bacau, Botosani, Braila, Buzau, Galati, Iasi, Neamt and Suceava.

The cooling in Romania will continue in the coming days, and the temperature is expected to drop to minus 20 C in some places. On Tuesday morning, the temperature in the capital Bucharest was minus 1 C. Since Monday, small wet snow has been falling in the city.

From Monday morning to Tuesday morning, the police rescued 190 stranded cars with about 400 people in them, the Ministry of the Interior announced. Employees of the Ministry intervened in 1,701 emergency cases.
