Dusko from Banja Luka collects Plastic Packaging and exchanges it for New Year Gifts

Dusko Tadic, who is an athlete from Banja Luka, managed to collect funds for 40 gifts for children through the activity of collecting plastic bottles and plugs, and he is planning to make even more children happy during these holidays.

“We came up with this idea about five months ago. We started collecting plastic from the month of August. At the very beginning, there was just a little bit of plastics, but the amount is increasing every day, and many citizens are now bringing plastics. I am hoping to collect much more next year. This year we are very happy that we managed to start this kind of activity,” said Dusko Tadic.

He is planning to collect funds for 500 gifts for children from the associations of disabled persons in Banja Luka and children from socially disadvantaged families.

Tadic started collecting plastics in exchange for gifts with his own family.

One of the goals of this activity is raising the awareness of fellow citizens to start recycling, noted Tadic.

“According to my estimations, we are throwing at least a million or two million BAM. That refers only to plastic bottles. Therefore, when we realise what can be done with so much money, I think it is time to increase the awareness of citizens on this topic and to educate ourselves a bit more about recycling. And not only recycling of plastics, but all other materials that we can benefit from,” said Tadic.

“I think that Banja Luka is now at 3 % when it comes to recycling and their plan is to reach 6 % by the year of 2020. I believe that we can certainly raise it to 20 % or even 30 % in a very short period of time with a good campaign and through the media, ,” stated Tadic.

He is very satisfied with reactions of citizens of Banja Luka to the numerous humanitarian actions that he often starts for people and organizations that need help.
