Bosnian-Herzegovinian national football team player Edin Džeko is the new member of German second division club Schalke 04.

He comes to Gelsenkirchen from Fiorentina, and will wear the number 10 jersey at his new club, Schalke 04 announced.

“Edin made it clear to us very quickly and clearly after our first contact that he has a great desire to come to Schalke. With him, we are bringing a striker who has played at the highest level throughout his career. In addition to his experience as a leader on the field, our team will also benefit from Edin’s qualities as a striker and scorer,” said Youri Mulder, director of professional football, adding:

“In conversations, he has convincingly shown us how hungry he is for a successful half-season with us. We are looking forward to that.”

This is also confirmed by Džeko, who in the national team jersey, together with another Schalke player, Nikola Katic, is leading the fight for qualification to the 2026 World Cup.

“Since my first interest, I have been very intensively involved with Schalke and watched several matches. The conversations with the club’s leaders, coach Miron Muslić and of course Nikola Katic were very good,” said Džeko and said:

“It is really impressive how the team has developed in this season after difficult years. Now I want to do my best to be successful as a team in the second part of the season as well. I am very much looking forward to the first home match at the sold-out VELTINS Arena”.

The name Džeko stands behind a successful and long career in European football. The right-handed player was, among other things, the champion of Germany and the best scorer in the Bundesliga, and he won the Premier League title twice.

He scored 72 goals in 146 games for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the club level, he played for VfL Wolfsburg, Manchester City, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Fenerbahce Istanbul and most recently for Fiorentina, Schalke reminds.
