Orthodox Christians yesterday marked Easter according to the Julian calendar, the biggest Christian holiday which symbolizes the victory of life over death, good over evil.
The celebration of Easter, which is preceded by preparations that include fasting for several weeks, Orthodox believers start at the temples first, gathered in the community on the Holy Liturgy, which represents the culmination of communion – union with the God.
The celebration of Easter is then continued within the family, where a special joy, especially for children, is knocking colorful Easter eggs. Colorful eggs are the symbolism of Easter. The egg is a symbol of the birth of life.
Serbian Patriarch Irinej, the supreme head of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Bishop of Nis, invited all believers to celebrate the Lord God on this day, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” (Romans 4:25).
In the Easter epistle, Patriarch Irinej stated that one should not stop loving “not only each other but also our enemies, in order for nothing to distract us from the way of life that Christ gave us.”
“With forgiving everything to each other, let’s renew with the resurrection to a new life. If we do not forgive to each other, we will not be forgiven, and if we condemn, we have already convicted ourselves, as the Lord teaches us,” said Irinej.
Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is the oldest Christian holiday and it is celebrated since the earliest times.
