The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) intends to provide a corporate loan up to EUR 20.1 million to “Elektroprijenos BiH” the Power Transmission Operator in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Transco or the Company) for the modernisation and upgrading of the telecommunications system of the Company.

The Project is critical to the ongoing process of regional market integration and it will lead to improvements in cross-border trade and allocation of power transmission capacity through the improved ability to manage the transmission network that the modernised and upgraded telecommunications system will deliver. Also the state of the art telecommunications system will significantly improve the country’s power system reliability and stability and will be the first important step towards the full implementation of a smart grid in the country, leading to ultimately to a reduction of losses and hence carbon emissions.

The total estimated costs of the project are around EUR 23.6 million, and will require the procurement of the following goods, works and services

Supply and installation of a new telecommunications system for the whole transmission network in BiH.

Supply and installation of back-up power supplies in sub-stations to ensure system reliability.

Reconstruction of data centres in the HQ and regional operational centres (Banja Luka, Mostar, Sarajevo and Tuzla).

Consultancy services to assist the Project Implementation Unit (potential services).

Tendering for the consultancy services (Component d) is expected to begin during Q3 2018 and for other components during 2019.

Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to the Bank’s Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank’s loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser’s country.
