EC: Entities in BiH have the Right to develop International Cooperation, but must abide by the Constitution

The entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have the right to develop international cooperation in areas within their jurisdiction, but must fully comply with the Constitution of BiH and the decisions of state institutions, the European Commission announced.

“Foreign policy in BiH falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the state, while the entities have a constitutional obligation to assist state institutions in fulfilling their obligations,” the European Commission said in response to a question from Radio Free Europe about the continuation of cooperation between the Republika Srpska (RS) police and Moscow.

RS Minister of Interior Željko Budimir signed a memorandum of cooperation in Moscow with Oleg Baranov, Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the city of Moscow, which is under EU sanctions.

This continued the cooperation that was established more than ten years ago and provides for the exchange of information, professional training and cooperation in the fight against terrorism and other forms of crime.

In June, the European Parliament adopted a resolution dedicated to BiH, condemning the cooperation of the RS authorities with Russian officials under international sanctions and warning that such relations pose a risk to the security and stability of BiH.
