Egypt condemns Israeli Attacks on Gaza school, UNIFIL Troops

Egypt strongly condemned Israel’s bombing of a school sheltering displaced civilians in western Deir al-Balah, Gaza, which resulted in numerous deaths and injuries as well as the Israeli military’s targeting of the United Nations Interim Forces (UNIFIL) in Lebanon on Thursday 10/10/2024.

In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt denounced the Israeli military’s targeting of the Deir al-Balah school that killed at least 28 people on Thursday

It also denounced the targeting of UNIFIL in South Lebanon, injuring two soldiers, as well as firing on another UN site in Ras al-Naqoura, damaging vehicles and communication systems.

The ministry’s statement stressed that the Israeli occupation’s continuous grave violations of international law and humanitarian law over the past year, without accountability, have emboldened the Israeli military to persist in its blatant disregard for international norms.

“This unchecked aggression erodes the rule-based international system and undermines the credibility of global actors who claim to defend human rights, justice, and humanitarian values but remain silent in the face of repeated violations, reflecting a stark double standard,” the ministry said in the statement.

“Egypt calls for an immediate ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, urging de-escalation and emphasizing the need for the Israeli military to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property,” the statement concluded.
