By receiving keys today, eight internally displaced and returnee families in Brčko District solved their housing issue and will move into newly constructed building, built under the Country Housing Project, aa part of Regional Housing Program (RHP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Including this building in Brčko, so far, a total of 10 buildings with 229 apartments have been constructed and moved in, 637 family houses have been reconstructed/constructed and 20 packages of construction material have been given. By the end of 2019, additional 740 housing units, out of which 543 family houses and 197 apartments, are planned for reconstruction/construction.

BiH Minister for Human Rights and Refugees, Semiha Borovac, along with the Brčko District Mayor, Siniša Milić, cut the ribbon and officially mark the move-in of beneficiaries.

‘I am happy that we opened the first RHP constructed building in Brčko today. Eight apartments with 27 occupants may seem small, but it is very significant for Adisa Đonlić, single mother of six, or Fahrudin Kalesić and all the others selected as those in highest social need.  I sincerely wish all of them to have a comfortable life and make great memories in their new homes. Along with this one, construction of another building in Brčko has begun under the Project“, said Minister Borovac and thanked the donors for allocating funds for implementation of the Regional Housing Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Minister underlined that no housing unit was constructed or reconstructed under the Project four years ago, but the number will reach 1 000 next month. Also, the building in Brčko is the first one equipped with basic appliances and furniture funded by the European Union.

Total value of the Regional Housing Program amounts to BAM 1.2 billion, whereas more than 200 million is dedicated to projects in BiH. This is all made possible with the support of the international community, first and foremost, the European Union as the biggest donor with around BAM 450 million, and United States of America, Germany, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Turkey and other donor countries. Program is strongly supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB).

As a part of six sub-projects of the Regional Housing Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina, total of 3202 housing units for refugees and displaced persons are planned for reconstruction/construction, out of which 2260 family houses and 52 multi-apartment buildings with 942 apartments intended for non-profit social housing.
