Eight Tons of Cocaine seized in Spain

Spanish police have seized eight tons of cocaine from Suriname hidden in a container in the form of aggregates in the port of Algeciras in Spain, the Spanish tax administration said.

This huge amount of cocaine, which is the largest ever found in Spain, was inside a metal structure, so that the narcotic would not show up on the scanner.

However, the customs officers discovered a large amount of stacked goods that practically filled the container, and they opened the packaging by force.

Smugglers have planned the route in such a way as to make it as difficult as possible to discover the contents of the container. They traveled from Suriname to Panama, and from there to Algeciras. The plan was for them to travel from Algeciras to the Portuguese port of Leixoes from where the drugs were to be transported by land back to Spain.

Customs officers said that three persons were arrested in connection with this case.
