Elektroprivreda BiH issues a Tender for Baseload Power Surplus

Bosnia’s biggest power utility Elektroprivred Bosne i Hercegovine (EPBiH) on Friday issued a tender to sell nearly 221 gigawatt hours (GWh) of baseload power surplus it will produce in the second half of 2019.

EPBiH invited both domestic and international bidders to place their bids by April 19.

Unlike its Balkan neighbors, which rely on imports to cover part of their energy needs, BiH is able to export power thanks partly to hydropower generation, which provides 40 percent of its electricity. The rest comes from coal-fired plants.

Net profit at EPBiH soared to 52.4 million BAM ($30.2 million) in 2018 from just 620,382 BAM a year before thanks to improved hydropower output after a drought a year before, India Times reports.
