September is always an association of the beginning of the new school year, which brings many challenges for both children and parents who are often unable to attend the first day of their children’s school due to business obligations. Such a practice needs to change, the Sarajevo City Administration said in a press release on Monday.

The City of Sarajevo invites all public and private companies, institutions, ministries as well as administrative bodies to enable parents whose children are in the first grade to accompany them to school.

“All employed parents should be granted paid leave to spend one of the most important days in a child’s life with him or her, which the City as a responsible employer supports,” it was stated.

The Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka, welcomed the first-graders, telling them that a new period of life, discovering new knowledge and friends, would begin for them on September 1.

In particular, he addressed words of support to teachers in this challenging period, emphasizing their responsible and precious task of passing on their knowledge with love and patience to new generations.
