Thirty-year-old Jasmina Sosa Cusic from Visici near Capljina is a professor of English language and literature, but she never got the chance to do the job for which she was educated.
When she lost the hope that she will ever find a job in her profession, she decided to find a way to earn money. She managed to find an alternative.
Since her family was dealing with agriculture since she was a child and they always paid special attention to producing as healthy vegetables as possible, she came up with the idea to start producing and selling eco-vegetables, which are produced without the use of any kind of harmful chemicals.
Buyers reacted very positively at the very beginning of the production and the demand was increasing every day. Very soon, “Local Eco Vegetables and Fruits by Jasmina” became a favourite among the people in Herzegovina. Sometimes, Jasmina does not have enough quantity that are requested.
When it comes to cultures that she produces, Jasmina said that she produces a lot of different kinds of vegetables and fruits in a year, and she offers spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, tomato, pepper, cucumber, lettuce, arugula, onions, potatoes, carrot, beet, parsley, celery, cabbage, kale, sweet potato, okaido, zucchini, corn, strawberries, cherries, cherries, apricots, peaches, apples, pears, lemon, watermelon, cherry tomato etc.
Everything is produced in accordance with the season. She produces fruits and vegetables on two locations – in Visice and in Nevesinje.
“There is currently seventeen of us working in the farm, and every one of us has his own task and we are trying to do it in the best way we can. The very beginning was quite difficult, but we managed to organize ourselves well and we are trying to do something better every year in comparison to the previous ones,” said Jasmina.
Today, the Facebook group and the website “Local Eco-Vegetables and Fruits by Jasmina” (Domace eko povrce i voce Jasmina) has around 10,000 members, and vegetables and fruits are delivered to the customers three times a week.
When it comes to new projects, she has a lot of plans for the next five years, but she will reveal them when the right time comes.
