EOL Petrol and Sarajevo Airport comment about the Fuel Leak

“EOL Petrol operates illegally at Sarajevo Airport”. “The 21,000 liter tank has no permit”. “Fuel leaked from the tank, which can cause an environmental disaster”! “EOL Petrol does not have minimum conditions for supplying airlines”. “Sarajevo Airport has given consent to use the services of subcontractors” – this is the information sent by readers to the editorial office of Akta.ba portal.

When asked what it was about, Akta asked for first-hand information from the company EOL Petrol. They claim that nothing is true and that they are doing everything in accordance with the law.

“By looking at the publicly available data, you can find all the necessary information about the warehouse – capacity, location, legality of the same. A FERC license is required to work at the Airport, and the list of issued licenses for wholesale and storage of oil derivatives is publicly available,” the company states.

They add that in the last three months, they have had a number of anonymous reports and very pleasantly welcomed each of the inspections that confirmed this.

“Ecology is very important to us, we don’t talk about it, we work on it. All our pumps have a closed fuel evaporation system, they all comply with EU directives, all tanks are newer than five years (and the tanks used by another company that works at the Airport are more than fifty years old, single-plate, etc.). We recently commissioned a solar power plant at one of the stations, and it is the first station that is energy independent in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” EOL Petrol told Akta.ba, adding that they were receiving unreasonable media attention is not required.

“We are a domestic family company that has been working diligently on the BiH market for fifteen years, in the real sector, and we get all the projects solely because of the painstaking and dedicated work of all the company’s employees,” they point out.

In connection with the alleged fuel leak, they announced from Sarajevo Airport. They also claim that the allegations are not true, and that it is completely unfounded and inaccurate information, which is being published by either unverified or malicious sources, and which aims to destroy the image and reputation of Sarajevo International Airport.

“In fact, there is currently no fuel in the tank owned by the EOL Petrol company, so there could not have been a leak. Also, the information about the illegal operations of the EOL petrol d.o.o. company at Sarajevo International Airport is completely wrong,” they state.

They remind that the Sarajevo International Airport is the owner of the environmental and water permit, which precisely prescribes the procedure on the site of the Sarajevo International Airport, and that they have an ISO 14001 environmental management system implemented since 2010.

“It obliges us to protect the environment in accordance with the rigorous requirements of the standards. All users of the MAS space, including the company EOL Petrol d.o.o., operate in accordance with the signed contract, by which they undertook to apply all requirements from the standards and permits of the International Airport Sarajevo, both from the security aspect and from the aspect of environmental protection”, the Airport emphasized.

They state that the operations of EOL Petrol at the Sarajevo International Airport were also the subject of inspection, and the findings are completely correct. There is evidence for all of the above.

As a reminder, Sarajevo airport is supplied with kerosene from two warehouses. It was first stored by the company Hifa Oil, which last year built a kerosene warehouse in the airport complex with accompanying facilities – a gas station, a gas filling station and a car wash.

Its construction was followed by citizen protests, as well as an investigation by the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor’s Office.

The second warehouse is owned by EOP Petrol, but it is located in Kakanj. The kerosene warehouse with a capacity of 300 tons, as the company says, was built according to the highest safety and European standards.

In order to ensure a safer supply of aviation fuel, Sarajevo Airport signed a contract with another company, namely EOl Petrol, in July of this year. Since then, the market competition between Hifa and EOL has started.
