The Estlink 2 power link between Finland and Estonia has been disrupted, local media reports said.

The reports, citing a statement from Finnish grid operator Fingrid, show that the direct current (DC) link was disrupted at 12:26 p.m. local time on Wednesday. At the time of the disruption, electricity transmission from Finland to Estonia was 658 MW. Fingrid has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the disruption.

Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported that Elering, the Estonian grid operator, also confirmed the disruption, but said the reason for the disruption remained unknown. Investigations are ongoing on both sides of the link.

Estlink 2, in operation since 2014, is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link connecting Finland and Estonia. It was built as a complement to Estlink 1, the first HVDC link between the two countries, which was put into operation in 2006, Xinhua reported.
