Estonian Prime Minister: Russia’s Defeat is crucial to avoid a Third World War

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas issued a sharp warning to the West, emphasizing the urgent need to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. She stressed that inaction could lead to a broader regional conflict, potentially escalating into a third world war.

“If Russia were to lose this war, then we don’t have to worry about a third world war. We want peace, but we want to have sustainable peace, and peace on Russian terms is not sustainable,” Kallas said.

Kallas advocates for increased defense spending in Ukraine and Europe, suggesting that unified efforts of the Ramstein group and NATO allies, including Western citizens, could significantly bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities.

She emphasizes that Russia’s reluctance to militarily engage with NATO highlights the deterrent effect of a strong European defense, a defense that the public can contribute to.

Addressing concerns about Russian nuclear threats, Kallas dismissed them as a tactic to instill fear, citing Russia’s history of psychological warfare. She also highlighted the challenges faced by smaller nations like Estonia in justifying defense expenditures in peacetime despite the existing Russian threat.

The Prime Minister criticized the failure of some NATO countries to fulfill their obligations regarding defense spending, emphasizing the urgency of investing in defense due to current conflicts.

She called on European Union (EU) leaders to prioritize defense needs and effectively communicate them to citizens, even at the cost of political reactions, Klix.ba reports.
