As part of the broader reorganization of the diplomatic service, Hungary has dismissed the duties of 25 ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, including the Hungarian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Krisztián Pósa, the official Hungarian newspaper Magyar Közlöny said.
By the decision of the President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok, made on the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Orbán, Pósa was relieved of his duties as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary and head of the Hungarian Embassy in Sarajevo.
The decision was made on July 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs signed it on July 22, and it was published on July 31 in Magyar Közlöny.
The changes affected some of the most important Hungarian diplomatic missions. Among others, the ambassadors in Washington, London, Moscow, Kiev, Belgrade, Bratislava, Prague and Sarajevo, as well as the heads of certain permanent missions to NATO, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the OSCE, were dismissed.
Among the dismissed diplomats are ambassador in Washington Szabolcs Ferenc Takács, in London Ferenc Kumin, in Moscow Norbert Attila Konkoly, in Kiev Antal Heizer and in Belgrade József Zoltán Magyar.
This is the second major wave of changes in the Hungarian diplomatic network after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced at the end of June that 37 heads of diplomatic missions would be withdrawn.
At the time, Minister Orbán explained the changes as an effort to renew the diplomatic staff and build a professional service that will effectively represent Hungary’s foreign policy interests.
The successors of the dismissed ambassadors have not yet been officially announced, Fena writes.
