EU Delegation calls on BiH Authorities to strengthen Systemic Responses to gender-based Violence

The Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a statement regarding the murder of Aldina Jahić, which occurred yesterday in Mostar.

The EU Delegation said that its thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Aldina Jahić – a victim of femicide in Mostar.

They called on the authorities in BiH to strengthen systemic responses to gender-based violence and the implementation of existing laws.

“The session of the House of Representatives of the Federation of BiH on Wednesday must mark a decisive step towards change,” the EU Delegation to BiH said.

As a reminder, the murder took place last night in a restaurant in Mostar. According to the police, Jahić reported that her ex-boyfriend was running after her with a gun. When the police arrived at the scene, the murder had already been committed.

Anis Kalajdžić, a football referee in the First League of the Federation of BiH, is suspected of this crime.

This is the first murder of a woman after the adoption of the Draft Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which treats femicide as the aggravated murder of a woman.

Also, the Mostar Citizens’ Initiative is organizing a peaceful protest walk tomorrow at 12:05 pm on the Spanish Square in Mostar to draw attention to femicide.
