High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1 and 2, it was confirmed to Fena.

As confirmed, Kallas will stay in Sarajevo during the visit.

It is about another visit of one of the highest officials of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina, at a time when the domestic authorities are expected to continue the reforms necessary for progress on the European path.

Kallas last visited Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 3 last year, when she met with members of the BiH Presidency in Sarajevo.

She previously visited Bosnia and Herzegovina in April 2025.

During that visit, she said that Bosnia and Herzegovina can count on the strong support of the European Union, but that domestic political actors must show political will and take responsibility for reform processes.

Kallas’ visit comes after European officials repeatedly called on the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to speed up the fulfillment of remaining obligations on the European path, especially the adoption of reform laws in the field of justice and the appointment of the chief negotiator with the European Union.

In March 2024, the European Council decided to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, but for the adoption of the negotiation framework and the effective start of the negotiation process, it is necessary to complete the remaining reform steps.

In the latest enlargement package, the European Commission assessed that the political crisis in the Republika Srpska entity and the government’s stall have slowed BiH’s progress, but pointed out that the country has an opportunity to deliver reforms and continue its European path.

The European Union has repeatedly stated that enlargement is a geostrategic interest of the EU, but also that there will be no shortcuts for candidate countries, and that progress depends on fulfilling reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law, the functioning of institutions and harmonization with European standards.
